As kind as the nomads were to Kazuo, Musfat's rambling was beginning to grate on him. "Mukade, you go first." He didn't particularly care if he had to walk, he felt fine. At the very least, he could avoid Musfat's rambling and likely questions about how the ride would be.

Asura grinned at Kazuo. "Yeah, Mukade can go first. I'd like to see him on a camel." He turned to watch Mukade as the boy joined up with them. He didn't really care about who rode... he would probably just ride a small sand wave if his feet got tired. It would only be able to carry him (and maybe Kazuo with him), but that would be enough.

He did, however, take note of the teacher. Standing back didn't really befit a loud, hard-driving sensei like him. Asura honestly expected Souran to be at the front, talking to the nomads about plans, setting things up, preparing... but no, he was staying back. Asura could only guess that it was some kind of test. This WAS the first night-time mission they'd been on, so maybe there was something else going on here. He tensed slightly, keeping a wary eye out for danger as they set off.

Mukade would quickly notice Souran was keeping his distance long before anyone else. It was almost second nature to him to be aware of what his father was doing and if he was watching. Immediately Mukade's mind belived he was quietly judging them, looking for fault or failure to criticise...

He silently agreed with the other two and moved to mount the animal. (assuming its sitting) It was apparent to Mukade as he began his attempt that this was a little different to mounting a horse, none the less he did what he could to try and get on it on his own, glancing back briefly hoping to not embarrass himself.

Mukade would suddenly get some sort of moment of enlightenment, he would feel as if he had been on camels at least hundreds of times. Still, as the camel would get up, it would feel a bit weird for him, since he had never been on a camel before, but at least he knew the basics and Musfat would hold the animal to stay calm.

When they all were ready to go, Musfat would start to lead them to wherever he thought he had to go. However, the northern star seemed a bit off direction. Musfat didn't seem to notice a thing as he was too busy with his compass and leading his camel into the direction he was thinking he had to go.

Kazuo, due primarily to a lack of proper ability to translate the images in astronomical texts to the night sky, had never been particularly good at star mapping, and thus had about as much an idea as Musfat that anything was unusual about their situation. Regardless, as the mission had truly begun and the group was in the open desert, outside the relative safety of the village, Kazuo opted to prove his usefulness in front of Souran.

The boy had picked up on this technique only a few weeks before falling ill, and hadn't had enough practice time to reveal it in the group training sessions Souran was fond of, but he was confident in using it now. He wasn't of the opinion that he needed to shout the name of every jutsu he used, but he did speak this one, loud enough for Souran to hear behind him. "Tengai Hōjin." With a soft clap of his hands, the sensing field would activate, giving Kazuo, and by extension, the squad, an early warning system should anyone come within it's range. Even now, Kazuo could clearly sense all of the movement within his new jutsu's field of effect, with Souran trailing some distance behind, and even Mukade's slight shifting on the camel to his left, even as he looked out into the dunes to his right.

A proud smirk fell onto his lips. No more useless Kazuo.

Asura had no idea what jutsu Kazuo just used, but he had a feeling it was some sort of detection jutsu. At least, he hoped it was. He wasn't good at seeing things before they happened. Instead, his specialty came in another way. He thought valiantly of some way he could help the group, but all he could think of at the moment was his Saton. Asura's mind blanked over and over again as they walked, trying desperately to think of something useful... so instead, he decided to practice. His blazing red hair would tell anyone who knew of the clans of Sunagakure that he was a Sabaku, and could easily bend the desert itself to his will. Anyone stupid enough to attack them with that knowledge deserved to die. Anyone without that knowledge would see him doing something else that would make them question their decision.

With a quick seal, Asura brought up a small amount of sand. He began to shape it into a sword-like shape, using his knowledge of Saton and kenjutsu to create a blade of sand. He wasn't sure how useful it would be in an actual fight unless he poured chakra into it, but he could definitely try and make the sword as thick and strong as he could. Enough, at least, that it wouldn't fall apart if he stopped focusing on it.

Mukade smiled under his collar, proud at how easily he'd taken to the camel, though attempted to hide this... after all it wasn't THAT big of an achievement, Musfat was still leading it. Sitting on the animal meant he had a higher perspective on their surroundings then the others. He decided to take advantage of this and look around, though he knew he'd be unlikely to see much more then the endless dunes.

(Not sure what I'd have to roll for this)

"Tengai Hōjin." Mukade looked down to notice Kazuo activating a jutsu. for a breif moment he looked from side to side wondering if he'd seen something... though realising that Kazuo was staying calm he attached a string and spoke, "What. was. that. Kazuo?" He chose to ignore the sand sword their Sabaku was twirling around.

Before waiting for Kazuo's reply Mukade noticed that the stars were a little off... he looked again a few times and noticed, "Musfat... Are. you. sure. we're. going. the. right. way? I. think. that. is. the. Northern. star. over. there." His puppet said as his other arm pointed in said star's direction.

As they started moving and Kazuo preformed his Jutsu Souran would just look to the sky and if whistling was a thing he did, he would. He didn't see a point in this tactics so far and again: nobody was comunicating with each other.

When Asura tried to create his sand sword, he would succeed, for about two seconds and he would start to find it hard to maintain the sword, with parts falling off and Asura wasn't even really able to keep it from moving weird, resulting in some sort of floppy, wiggly sand sword!
Souran just stood there, silently judging each and every one of them. When finally someone said something smart, Souran would have to force himself not to smile. It was his son and even though his son was still a disgrace to the family, he finally seemed to come loose a bit. It was a begin.

Mukade himself would notice that - if they were going south the northern star would be behind them. In stead it was on their left, meaning they were walking east, deeper into the desert.
Musfat himself would just look up surpised. 'Compass says we go south. See?!' he carefully showed the shinobi his compass.

[Here's just a little hint: start making rolls kids.]

Kazuo smiled a little. "Tengai Hojin is a sensor technique. Even the invisible can be detected if they come too close. Even in the desert there are bandits, and all the more likely they won't be inexperienced. These conditions quickly deal with inexperienced people."

He felt rather pleased with himself, at least until Mukade pointed out the usual situation they were in for direction. The idea that his teammate had a better grip of stargazing than him was embarrassing, and left his mood quite a bit more bitter than before. Could never figure out how... But I did study the terrain.

Academics for geography, any magnetic deposits in the desert near where we started?

Asura dropped the sand as the conversation began, looking around at the others. He had no idea what they were talking about until Mukade mentioned being lost. He wasn't going to be much use here... he was a fighter, despite his studies...

((I'm sorry for the long wait guys. But most of you already know the reasons behind this.))

Mukade looked down at the compass with a puzzled expression, he gently took it from Musfat and inspected it, before looking back up at the star, then the compass. He did this a few times, giving the compass a few shakes making sure its pointer simply wasn't stuck or something... This was weird...

This didn't match up... "There. is. a. discrepancy." Said Koe, "The. stars. and. magnetic. field. in. this. area. contradict. one. another..." He said to everyone, "Something. is. not. right."

((What are we meant to be rolling? and how are we intended to do that?))
